Christian Center UBC....Come Grow with Us!!!

History of Christian Center Union Baptist Church

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."- Matthew 28:19 - 20

On August 12, 1981 a group of bible believers joined together to set up Articles of Incorporation under Christian Center Union Baptist Church located at 718 N. Fremont Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21217.

These believers built the ministry for the sole purpose of practicing Christian Religious Worship, to carry out, promote and initiate spiritual guidance and charitable activites, and to support and build communities everywhere.  The Lord honored the vision of this small group of believers and began to grow the ministry with more members, growth in their finances and most importantly spiritually.

There have been numerous amounts of people that have contributed to the success and growth of this ministry. Christian Center will never forget the hard work and dedication of its first leaders, the Late Rev. Henry Cook and Sis. Mae Clark Williams.

After Rev. Cook retired from pastoring there were several Preachers that worked hard to push the church to its full potential. In 2005 the next warrior chosen to carry out the ministry was Rev. Bennett; he served from that time until early summer of 2007.

On the 4th Sunday of September 2007, Rev. Robert E. Johnson, Jr. was asked to step in as Acting Pastor until such time.  On January 5, 2008 Rev. Johnson was installed as Head Pastor to the Christian Center Union Baptist Church. Rev. Johnson did not let the fact that there were only four members in the congregation stop him, God gave him a vision to be carried out for this set house and he intended to follow the plan of God at all cost. Along with the power of the Holy Ghost he came to the church with a drive and zeal for kingdom building. The vision the Lord had given him was to tear down the old and rebuilt the new.  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17

In March of 2008, through hard work and dedication of the pastor and its members we were able with the help of God to remodel the first floor level of the church, and partial renovation on the second level. In 2011 God allowed The Christian Center Union Baptist Church to Pay-Off its mortgage in its entirety. Hallelujah, To God be the Glory for the Great Things he has done.

Christian Center has grown tremendously, in number, however the focus is not in membership but instead it is in kingdomship.

The vision is coming to past; God is tearing down the old and rebuilding the new. We are walking in the fullness of Jesus Christ,  And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians, 1:6

Out of this great vision in the Christian Center family God has ordained  ministries such as: Christian Education, Women’s Ministry, Dance Ministry, Hospitably/Greeters Ministry, Praise & Worship, Missionary/Outreach Ministry, New Members Ministry, Men’s Ministries, 12 Step Program for Substance Abuse and Family Healing and our newest ministry which is our Food for Thought Drive, every 2nd Saturday of the month this ministry serves the surrounding community with natural food and spiritual food, Christian Center has provided the community with financial contributions, we sow into other ministries, we have free clothes give-away, we provided families with  care packages and most importantly we share the gospel of Jesus Christ and His immeasurable love.

We the members of Christian Center Union Baptist Church will continue to carry out the vision of its Leaders and the ordained plan of God. It is because of God that we now Celebrate it is because of Him that we Live!!
